Projects

I’ve done a wide range of work over the years, with Architectural practices, corporate clients, small companies and private individuals.

I’ve worked on historic gardens of listed buildings, including  Grade One listed Manadon House where I worked closely with English Heritage, and at the other end of the spectrum, landscaping of student housing projects with architects  Susan Stephens and Associates (Edinburgh.) Projects including Willowbank Glasgow, Edinburgh Gateway, Claremont House Newcastle, and Victoria Point Manchester.

Exciting though it is to work on large prestigious projects, there usually comes a point with these where I hand over to the client and contractor, and I’ve come to realise that for me, the most satisfying projects are often those which I can see through from start to finish, oversee and assist with the planting, plant selection and metaphorically hold the client’s hand throughout the establishment phase, while they get to know their new garden and understand how to look after their lovely new plants.

I like to see my ideas grow, be marked out on the ground and become three dimensional, and to share this love with people who may have expected their garden to be a ready-made installation, and instead realise it is a process which they can be involved in, where nature steps in and makes its own additions of bees, butterflies and birds, and more and more luscious growth.

I’ve been lucky enough to work with clients whose appreciation of the natural world has increased by the simple joy of having more of it outside their windows, Over the years I’ve gathered so much plant know-how that I’m longing to share, and my longstanding favourites are growing along in my own small nursery, ready and waiting for future gardens.
