A Garden On The Estuary

This garden created a huge logistical challenge, being a steeply sloping overgrown site with no road access. Originally two properties, the brief was to create a single unified garden with useable spaces and access across the slope and down to the estuary.

Access was negotiated with The Duchy of Cornwall and all materials and machinery had to be lifted over the sea wall. We created a series of walls, steps and terraces which were clothed in wild flowers and dense evergreen shrubs.

Close to the house a new terrace and broad steps linked planting and lawn to the wilder gardens below.

"Charlotte’s garden design reflects her care and dedication as a plantswoman and her skill in design. Highly recommended to us by an interior designer, she has landscaped our garden from scratch. What appeared to most to be a daunting task, Charlotte viewed as an exciting project. Regardless of the range of different levels and undergrowth swamping our sea view, not once was she overwhelmed by the scale of the task. Calmly informal but with an admirable ‘can do’ approach, she designed the initial concept plan, recommended and sourced all of the materials for the hard landscaping elements and both co-ordinated and managed the construction team. She re-planted our entire garden, maintained it all as it took root, designed our new patio and front drive, plus the beautiful walling, paving and cobbling.

From the moment we first met Charlotte, it was obvious that she greatly values her relationship with her client. As a result she has ensured that our garden suits our tastes and needs whilst ensuring it sits comfortably within its setting. We are absolutely delighted with the transformation and could not have hoped for more".
