A Boulder Garden &
a Pool
This second home by the sea has two distinct areas. The existing sloping driveway had a large empty raised bed in which our South-African client wanted to recreate a feel of the Veldt, with large weathered boulders and naturalistic planting.
To the rear the main feature is a new swimming pool with a bespoke sedum roofed pump house. Above this sits a wild flower walkway which connects the first floor balcony to the pool.
We designed all the aesthetic features of the pool, it's surroundings and setting in the garden whilst all technical aspects of the swimming pool design were undertaken by a specialist.
“Charlotte has created the most beautiful garden for us! Our brief was for a wildflower garden with a swimming pool—something natural, full of colour, low-maintenance, and attractive to bees and other wildlife. What she delivered is beyond anything we could have imagined.
The garden feels wonderfully loose and free, with an ever-changing palette of colours and textures. There’s always something new emerging, and the views to Daymer Bay – seen through drifts of verbena and dancing grasses—are simply breathtaking.
Charlotte brought in some massive boulders, which were carefully lowered into the landscape, then surrounded them with flowing planting and vivid colour. Each one feels grounded and timeless, as though nature placed them there herself.
It is truly a haven of peace and tranquillity. The sound of buzzing bees, the flutter of butterflies, and the gentle rustle of grasses bring joy to the spirit every time we step into the garden.
Charlotte also oversaw the entire project, including the construction of the swimming pool and the surrounding decking, ensuring that everything came together seamlessly.
A heartfelt thank you to Charlotte, Wendy, Dean, and the entire team. We absolutely love it!”
